Как тесен криминальный мир...
Story has it that the face of crime was forever altered on October 24, 1918, when the diminutive 16 year old Meyer Lansky was on his way home from work. He lived with his family, which had immigrated to New York a few years earlier. Meyer had been a good student, never a problem, and his father had secured a promising tool-and-die job for him.
Suddenly Meyer heard screams from a deserted building. Inside he discovered a woman and a teenage boy, both naked. The woman was being roughed up by another young fellow, her pimp, who was furious because she was doling out sexual favors gratis. When the boy tried to fight back, the pimp beat him and threw him to the ground. The scene infuriated Meyer, who pulled a wrench from his tool kit and applied it to the pimp’s head. Shortly, the cops came along and hauled them off. The case came to naught, and as Meyer was leaving the courtroom, the pimp introduced himself. He was Salvatore Luciana, later to be known as Lucky Luciano. The boy who was with the whore was Benjamin Siegel, soon to be tagged as Bugsy.
